A Hip Replacement Surgery May Fail due to Flawed Hip Device

Hip replacement surgery is also called arthroplasty. It is a surgical procedure in which  doctors remove and replace any diseased or injured parts of the hip joint with artificial parts. However, it has been a worldwide issue recently that certain hip prosthesis are defective and have a high possibility of failing, like the ones manufactured by the DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., a subsidiary company of Johnson & Johnson.

The primary reason that patients undergo a hip replacement surgery is because the hip joint can wear down over time and may result in osteoarthritis, according to experts. Other conditions that may lead to a breakdown of the hip joint and may require hip surgery are rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, hip injury, bone tumors and swelling.

As was experienced by different patients, it is uncertain that hip replacement will improve the quality of life. Victims of flawed and failed hip surgeries have gone through worse pain and suffering. Johnson & Johnson is actually facing a number of lawsuits because of their faulty product. The company announced DePuy hip recall in 2010.
